Ionia

Summary: Common problems and hopes for a common solution brought four families together more than twenty years ago. They purchased five acres of spruce forest on the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The Ionians have since purchased 160 additional acres of wild Alaska land. The residents have built ten log cabins, a large log community center and a barn. They mill spruce logs to build ther homes and furniture, and grow and cut their firewood. Organic gardens, greenhouses, and a grain field help to feed them throughout the year. Their population hovers around fifty, from newborns to elders. Without compromising access to the latest technologies, they live here with a minimum of disturbance to the lands' natural beauty and balance.
