Summary: When Atanarjuat, an unassuming young man, falls in love with Atuat, whose hand has already been promised to the scheming Oki, the son of the tribal chief, the jealous Oki challenges Atanarjuat to a brutal contest for Atuat's hand which Atanarjuat wins, and weds his love, but his problems are far from over as Oki plans his revenge.
