Summary

We the People : An Atlas of America's Ethnic Diversity

With original maps and a detailed text, this attractive oversized volume (17 1/2 x11 1/2 ") describes the ethnic backgrounds of Americans and illustrates their geographic distribution throughout the country. Drawing on data files of the 1980 US Census, Allen and Turner (both geography, California State U., Northridge) map the geographical patterns of 67 ethnic and racial groups in the US. The volume features 111 color maps showing ethnic distribution in every county and state. Special maps show the interstate migration patterns of selected groups. Other maps show historical distributions of immigrant populations. The text covers each ethnic and racial group chapter by chapter, and includes discussions of many subgroups. A comprehensive introduction explains the sources and the uses of all materials in the volume. For both generalists and specialists. Annotation(c) 2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
