PreS-Gr 3--Mayor Fleck wakes up ready and excited for Halloween, but one thing is mysteriously missing: his costume! He tries to start his work day and plan for the evening's party, but no one recognizes him without his special outfit. Strange things keep happening around him, but Mayor Fleck chugs along through the day, hoping to find a new costume just in time for the big night. Luckily, he wakes up and realizes it was all a dream. As a Level 3 Step into Reading title, this story is aimed at children who are ready to read on their own. It features large text and approximately two to four sentences per page. While the illustrations do not help beginning readers decipher the text by depicting what the words say, they do capture the fun mood of the story through facial expressions and bright colors. VERDICT This story for beginning readers will appeal to young lovers of LEGO City and Halloween.--Kerra Mazzariello
